The light but continuous rain falling on the long desiccated ground infused a sprit of liveliness among every living thing on the face of the city, which appears far fresh and energetic like before.
The foggy scene of the capital city with its dust covered and withered botanic, frustrated people usually with throat infections due to long prevailed dry spell besides powdered buildings and other items have been suddenly replaced by the lush green sparkling atmosphere where the cheerful people are enjoying the long awaited winter rain.
The washed out buildings and other items are now presenting a clean and tidy look to the capital city, which was previously appeared blanketed with thick layers of dust partially because of long draught and partially because of the development work taking place these days.
The rain drops are openheartedly welcomed by the residents of twin cities who unlike previous winter rains seemed to enjoy it in true letter and spirit and appeared roaming around the city. Playing their favourite romantic songs in their vehicles, many of the people especially couples enjoyed the long drive in the dreamy weather while a considerable number found hanging around the most popular destination of Damn-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa.
Covered with thick clouds, the hill station appeared no less than a heaven for the couples who enjoyed the drizzle while having the winter delicacies including the popular barbeque followed by a hot cup of Kashmiri tea.
“Everything appears so fascinating. It seems just out of the world especially the hide and seek of thick clouds, which once hid the whole city scene and reveal the entire skyline with a blink of an eye,” said Tayyab Asghar.
Needless to say that people who managed to escape to the Murree must have gone through the pleasure of walking in the snow covered valley where the soft snow flakes have soothed their nerves with its soft kisses. The sight of people strolling despite drizzle reminds one of a famous quotation “anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain”. Holding umbrellas and wearing woollies people found walking on different tracks of the city while some also appeared munching crunchy peanuts in order to enjoy the weather to its fullest.
“It is such a fun. We are enjoying every drop of the rain. Everything seems so fresh so are we,” said Sonia Mahmood excitingly. According to her rain was blessing of Allah Almighty so everybody should thank God by offering ‘Nawfil’ and enjoying weather.
The prevailing weather and the activities associated with it could truly be termed as the prologue to the Valentine’s Day — a day to cherish the love. People nowadays are busy buying valentine gifts for their loved ones, booking orders for the bouquet and cakes besides the table in their favourite restaurant.
“I had never enjoyed shopping for Valentine’s Day as much as this time because of the enchanting weather. I wish this prevailing weather could last till that day so that we could celebrate it to the fullest,” said Afia Rehman who was out to shop for her faience at a leading gift shop.
The stalls of fried items including the spicy ‘pakoras’ and ‘samosas’ appeared crowded with people where they literally found lined up to get their share in order to enjoy the weather while having these delicacies along with a hot cup of tea.
The rain is a sigh of relief for the people also because of the prevailing energy crisis. The looming danger of water and electricity crisis seemed to have deferred, if not ended. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a strong westerly weather system is likely to approach the country during next 36 hours and would cause widespread rain and heavy snowfall during next two days. |
