The Islamabad Police have busted a six-member gang, including two women, involved in kidnapping for ransom and recovered two men tied with chains from their custody.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, SP (Rural Zone) Tahir Ayub said that the gang trapped people through their female members. Nazaan Sanchi, aged 20, resident of Ramdas Chowk, Peshawar, was involved in providing explosive material to terror outfits and transporting drugs to different parts of the country, the SP disclosed.
The gang was operating from Islamabad and it had established a penitentiary near Zia Masjid, he said. He said that the captors belonged to Malakand, Charsadda, Dir and Peshawar. They used mobile phone SIMs taken from different cities on various identities for making contact with relatives of the kidnapped persons for demanding ransom.
According to the SP, the gang committed 8 offences of kidnapping for ransom and abducted six persons from Islamabad and received ransom for their release. The SP told journalists that police conducted a raid and recovered two men namely Zia-ul-Islam and Manzoor-ul-Haq, who were abducted by the gang.
Upon receiving information about kidnapping of two men and their confinement in a house near Zia Masjid, police constituted a team, headed by DSP Shahzad Town Ishaq Warraich, and comprising SHO Rana Muhammad Akram, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Akbar, ASIs Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Saqib, Zafar Abbas, Ahmed Yar and other police officials to conduct a raid on the gang’s hideout.
Tahir Ayub said that police conducted raid and recovered two men, Zia-ul-Islam and Manzoor-ul-Haq, tied with chains and arrested two captors identified as Muhammad Sher (ringleader), son of Sher Alam, resident of Shah Sahib Dhairi, Sakhakot, Dargai, Malakand, and Farhad, son of Baajan, resident of Haleemzai, Dhairi Shabqadar, Charsadda, from the den.
Later, police arrested all captors one by one. The other captors were identified as Yasir Khan, son of Maazullah, resident of Haleemzai, Shabqadar, Charsadda, Muhammad Wali, son of Gul Khatam, resident of Bandan, Wadhi, Upper Dir, and two women Asima Kanwal, daughter of Malik Muzaffar, resident of Motial Ganj, Peshawar, and Nazaan Sanchi, daughter of Shahnawaz, resident of Bhana Mari, Ramdas Chowk, Peshawar.
The SP said that the raiding party recovered two pistols, one gun, 27 rounds and a knife from the hideout. He, quoting the statements of the recovered men, said that ringleader Shuaib Khan developed friendship with Zia-ul-Islam, a month ago when he visited Mardan and invited him and his cousin Manzoor to lunch in his house near Zia Masjid last Sunday. The two men reached near Zia Masjid in their car (LHM-1787) where Shuaib Khan was waiting for them.
The SP said that he took them to his house near Zia Masjid and asked them to wait in the drawing room. After sometime, Shuaib Khan entered the room with three men, equipped with a pistol, a gun and a dagger, and two women and started thrashing them. The captors, later, tied them with chains and locked them in a room and demanded ransom from their relatives on phone for their safe release.
The SP said that Nazaan Sanchi had undergone a term of imprisonment of 14 months in a drug-pushing case. According to him, she was also involved in providing explosive material to terror outfits on their demand. During initial investigation, the kidnappers have confessed to their involvement in eight kidnapping incidents and getting Rs1.4 million as ransom.
